Henry Cavill, or Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill, was born on May 5, 1983, in Jersey, UK. One of four brothers, he was educated at St. Michael’s Preparatory School where he grew up. Afterwards, he attended a boarding school in Buckingham, Stowe School, where he had roles in many plays, including Sonny in Grease and Oberon in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He also directed himself in Hamlet in “40 Minutes”. He said, “In prep school, I really learned to love the stage.” His first movie role was as Thomas in Laguna in 2001. His second role was in the hit film The Count of Monte Cristo, where he played Albert, the son of the title character: “They were looking for a boarding school boy, and luckily I happened to look right for the part and I had a bit of acting experience... and that’s where it all kind of kicked off.”

His next major film was alongside Bill Nighy and Romola Garai in I Capture the Castle in 2003. He also started as Melot, friend to James Franco’s Tristan in the 2006 Middle Ages-set film, Tristan + Isolde. Following that, he landed a small part as Humphrey in Stardust. Henry is perhaps better-known now as Sir Charles Brandon in the Showtime’s television series, The Tudors, with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers playing Henry VIII. The second season will air in spring of 2008. Henry also has another film, a thriller called Town Creek, scheduled to be released in 2008.
